Claflin hosts middle school track meet

CLAFLIN — The Claflin Junior High track team hosted its 14th annual Claflin Junior High Invitational Track and Field Meet on Tuesday.
Claflin won two of the four divisions with the eighth-grade girls and the seventh-grade boys finishing in first place of the five teams competing, which included Victoria, Skyline, Otis-Bison and Raymond.
Claflin’s seventh-grade girls took second place, and its eighth-grade boys finished in third place.
Otis-Bison’s top finisher was its seventh-grade boys team, which took third place. Its sevneth-grade girls and eighth-grade boys both finished in fourth place. The Otis-Bison eighth-grade girls finished in fifth.
Claflin’s eighth-grade girls were led by first-place finishes from Julie Demel in the 220-yard (30.25 seconds), Bre Schartz in the high jump (four feet, six inches) and BriAna Lewis in the shot put (30-6 1/2). Both the 4x110 and the 4x220 relays took first place as well.
Kendi Maxwell led the seventh-grade girls with a first-place finish in the discus with a throw of 74-3.
Trustin Krett took first place in the 220 dash for the eighth-grade boys with a time of 29.78. Hunter Ingham finished in first place in the 440 dash with a time of 1:06.06.
For Otis-Bison’s seventh-grade boys, Preston Cheely claimed first place in the shot put with a heave of 34-0 1/4.
Triston Pitts took first place in the eight-grade boys long jump for Claflin, leaping to a distance of 15-11 3/4.
