Ellinwood and Central Plains High Schools sent their girls’ tennis players to South Barber for a 3-1A regional tournament over the weekend.
The result?
Ellinwood and Central Plains each qualified five players for the 3-1A State Tournament, which will be held on Friday and Saturday at Dodge City.
Each team will be bringing one singles player.
Central Plains’ Breanna Schartz went 3-1 at the regional meet to finish runner-up in the singles competition.
Schartz went through the first two rounds without giving up a game and only gave up one game through three matches.
She fell 6-2, 6-1 against Meade’s Bailey Olvera in the final match.
Ellinwood’s Mattie Shafer narrowly made it in, finishing sixth at the regional tournament with a 2-2 day.
Ellinwood’s doubles teams met Central Plains’ doubles teams in their final matches of the regional tournament.
Rachel Doll and Danae Patten of Ellinwood capped a 4-0 day by beating Keeley Hipp and Janae Ryan of the Lady Oilers 6-4, 6-1 for first place.
In the third-place match was Ellinwood’s Mikayla Monday and Katie Shafer against McKenna Hammeke and Kaylyn Oberle.
Again, the Lady Eagles’ team prevailed. This time 6-1, 7-6 (7-2).
