Ellinwoods Montoya captures first-place finish at Rim Rock Farm

The Ellinwood High School cross-country team competed at the Rim Rock Farm Classic in Lawrence on Saturday. The boys finished third. The girls finished 15th. LAWRENCE — Pedro Montoya led the Ellinwood High School boys’ cross-country team, which finished third in its division of the Rim Rock Farm Classic.
Montoya’s first-place finish in the 246-runner field helped the defending Class 2A state champions finish in the top five on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles finished 15th.
“I thought the guys did a better job working as a team,”  Eagles head coach Lyles Lashley said.  “The girls continue to get better every week and have to keep working hard to get to their ultimate goals.”
Montoya clocked in at 16:15.30, a 5:14 mile pace. The time was a personal best.
Jenna Snell led the Lady Eagles with a time of 16:21.40 for 18th place among 211 athletes.
