SALINA — The Salina South High School girls’ tennis tournament marked the first time that Great Bend has finished out of first place in September.
The Lady Panthers finished fourth out of eight teams on Thursday afternoon.
“I thought it was a pretty good tournament for us,” GBHS head coach Shannon Schartz said. “Kapaun Mt. Carmel is a defending (Class 5A) state champion, and there were two other teams that were ranked in the state. To finish behind those teams, we felt pretty good.”
Morgan Francis was the top finisher for the Lady Panthers, capturing fourth place in the singles bracket. Macy Moyers took fifth.
Brianna Schartz and Jami McVay led Great Bend’s two doubles teams, seizing fifth place.
