Dr. Rogena Johnson to join HRMC as Chief Clinical Officer

HUTCHINSON — Dr. Rogena Johnson, MD grew up in Hutchinson and from an early age aspired to become a doctor. On March 21, 2022, Dr. Johnson will join Hutchinson Regional Medical Center as the organization’s Chief Clinical Officer. 

Her responsibilities will be split approximately 50-50 between serving as a primary care physician and in an administrative capacity working closely with the network of doctors within the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. 

Dr. Johnson calls herself a true local native of Reno County. After graduating from Buhler High School, Johnson enrolled at Kansas State University where, in 2000, she graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Lifescience with a minor in Biology. While a student at Kansas State, Johnson went the extra mile and completed a course to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and accepted a part time job at Mercy Hospital in Manhattan. Soon after graduation, her next step took her to the University of Kansas School of Medicine, graduating in 2005.  

During the 16 years following graduation from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, she has served a three-month stint as a surgical clerkship in Zanzibar, Africa, and was employed at the Heart and Family Institute in Port St. Lucie, Fla. before returning to Kansas. Dr. Johnson currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for Hunter Health in Wichita and prior to that was Medical Director for Serenity Hospice of Hutchinson. Johnson is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine. She has written and spoken to audiences throughout the nation on multiple health-care topics including HPV immunization programs and Osteoporosis. 

Dr. Johnson said she looks forward to joining Hutchinson Regional. “I am extremely excited to now be a part of Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and can’t wait to see what the years to come hold for this tremendous team,” Dr. Johnson said. “I truly believe that all people deserve quality health care and this commitment to the patient experience and excellence in quality care and personalized patient relationships is what drives me. I am enthusiastically committed to the concept of whole person wellness and hope to work within the community to establish and/or promote public health programs and awareness.”  

Ken Johnson, President and CEO of Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System, called Dr. Johnson’s decision to join the hospital a reason to celebrate. “She has a vast background in multiple facets of healthcare and we are ecstatic Dr. Johnson has chosen Hutchinson Regional as the next stop in her professional career and hope her tenure will be long,” Johnson said. “Also, it is refreshing when one of our own in Reno County expresses support for our community and health-care system. She will have an immediate positive impact on Hutchinson Regional.” 

“Dr. Johnson has served with distinction in a number of health-care organizations and has left each one better as a result of her skills as a physician coupled with her tremendous leadership skills,” Johnson continued. 

Dr. Johnson and her husband Scott are the parents of three grown children.
