Central Kansas Threadbenders Quilt Guild recently delivered a handmade quilt to Adam Krug, winner of the group’s 2021 quilt raffle. Mary Ann June, a member of the quilt guild, said sales for the annual raffle changed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Central Kansas Threadbenders was affected by the pandemic the same as so many others,” June said. “Each year there is a quilt made to raffle to raises funds for the group. Usually the quilt is displayed at events all year long where tickets are sold. When the pandemic started, everything was closed down and we didn’t get to sell tickets.
“Finally in 2021, things got better and the quilt was displayed at several events.” It was first shown at the Great Bend Farm, Ranch & Hemp Expo. Then the Shafer Art Gallery at Barton Community College allowed the quilt to be display all summer and handled all of the ticket sales while it was on exhibit.
“We are grateful for their help with our project,” June said.
The drawing was held during the December meeting and the winner was Adam Krug. “After this long delay, it was wonderful to have a winner,” June said.
Donna Krug, Great Bend, said her son Adam had just moved his family into a home in Lindsborg over the holidays. “(He) was pretty excited that I had put his name on a raffle ticket that won the quilt!” She said. Adam is a science teacher at Smoky Valley High School.
“The quilt guild uses money raised to help others in the community, especially for people who have experienced a fire,” June said. “Our hope is that people can feel that through the quilt they feel encouraged even during a troubling time.”
The quilt guild meets at 1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at Heartland Community Church, 4907 10th St., Great Bend. Visitors are encouraged to attend several meetings to see if this group is for them.
