McPHERSON — Canadian singer-songwriter Darrelle London will appear at the McPherson Opera House on Saturday, March 2, at 7 p.m.
Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is a fan, and in one of his blog posts, he wrote: “Yay! One of our FAVE Canadian imports has dropped a sweet new melody, and it is supa Fine! Darrelle London sings, plays piano, writes music ... she’s a one-woman song-producing team! AND she has a pure, angelic tone paired with clever, uber-relatable lyrics.”
Another less over-the-top reviewer said, “Using a highly personal, honest and mildly quirky brand of piano-based Pop, London charms listeners with a sweet sound that masks an underlying sophistication and wit that are disarming. ... London is the total package.”
“I second the critics,” said John Holecek, McPherson Opera House executive director. “I saw her two years ago at a Midwest Arts showcase in Minneapolis and signed her on the spot. Her manner, her tunes, her lyrics are all totally engaging. I really don’t know who to compare her to. Interesting is the fact that she was accepted to law school but chose the life of a musician instead. Although her music would appeal to anyone, I’m looking for a younger demographic to turn out for this show. Tickets aren’t expensive, $22, general admission. I’m calling it our ‘Club Night.’”
Tickets can be purchased at the Opera House, by calling 620-241-1952, or online at mcphersonoperahouse.org. McPherson College and Peoples Bank and Trust are sponsors of the show.
