The fifth annual Storm Co-Ed Benefit Softball Tournament, helping the area’s Special Olympics team, will be held July 27-28 at Veterans Fields in Great Bend. Team sign-ups are under way with the entry fee set at $135 per team.
Proceeds from the tournament help to cover expenses for the Golden Belt area’s team, the Storm, which competes in Special Olympic events throughout the year.
“The money goes toward paying for hotel rooms and meals when they compete; it also covers gas for the bus,” explained Patty Halseth, who is entering her fifth straight year of organizing the event.
The tournament is played by Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) rules. For an extra $5 fee, a player can participate in a home run derby. There will be concessions available throughout the tournament.
Tournament sponsorships from businesses and individuals are being sought for the tournament. Sponsorships range from $100 to $750 and include T-shirt and poster recognition for sponsors. The $750 sponsorship includes banner recognition on one of four dugouts being used for the tournament.
