Three people died after a truck hit a semitrailer at 1 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 70 in Ellsworth County.

Kansas Highway Patrol reports a 2019 Volvo semi driven by Curtis Lee Garrison Jr., 43, of Vaughan Miss., was westbound in the right lane on I-70. A 2007 Chevy Silverado driven by Reginald Miller, 32, of Arthur Ill. struck the rear of the semi’s trailer. The Silverado veered off into the north ditch where it caught fire. The semi came to a rest in the lane then moved to avoid the fire.

Miller and his two passengers, Darrin Stutzman, 20, of Arthur Ill. and Matthew Lynn Herschberger, 16, of Arcola Ill., died in the crash. It is unknown if they were wearing their seat belts.

Garrison sustained possible injury in the crash and taken to Salina Regional Hospital. A passenger in the semi, Cordell Miguel Wilson, was not injured, both occupants in the semi were wearing their seat belts.
