A fourth positive case of coronavirus (COVID-19) has been reported in Barton County, county Public Information Officer Donna Zimmerman said Wednesday afternoon. The case is in the rural northeast part of the county.

Fatal crash in Barton County

The Barton County Sheriff Office responded to a two vehicle crash late Friday night where one person was killed and three others were injured just east of the fair grounds entrance on West Barton County Road.
According to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir, a pickup with three occupants was heading westbound and a passenger car with one occupant was heading eastbound. Both vehicles crossed the center lane and hit each other head on, the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
“One passenger in the pickup was killed and the other passenger received non-life threatening injuries, the driver of the pickup was in critical condition as of last night and flown to a Wichita hospital. The driver of the passenger car was in serious condition as of last night,” Bellendir said.
As of press time the names were not released and the crash is still under investigation.
The BCSO was assisted on the scene by the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Great Bend Fire Department.
