MANHATTAN — K-State professor and Great Bend native Bryan Pinkall has been nominated with the Kansas City Chorale for Best Choral Performance and Best Engineered Album, Classical in the 2016 Grammy Awards for the album, “Rachmaninoff: All Night Vespers.”
Pinkall was a soloist on the album, which was released by Naxos Records in March of 2015 and debuted at No. 1 on the Classical and Traditional Classical Billboard Charts. The producer of the album, Blanton Alspaugh, was also nominated for Producer of the Year, Classical.
Founded in 1981, the Kansas City Chorale, conducted by Charles Bruffy, has received an ASCAP Award for adventurous programming in addition to receiving multiple Grammy nominations and several wins, most recently in 2013 for “Best Choral Performance” for “Life and Breath: Choral Works by René Clausen.”
Pinkall is an assistant professor of music in the School of Music, Theater, and Dance and has been with the Kansas City Chorale since 2012 and is a professional singer and event producer. In 2014, he served as manager of Performance Operations and Direction of the Emmy-winning 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony. Pinkall is a faculty member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and was named Distinguished Kansan of the Year in Performing Arts by the Topeka Capital Journal in 2014.
The Grammy Award winners will be announced on February 15, 2016, in Los Angeles.
