WICHITA -- The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued heat advisories starting Wednesday.  Heat indices are expected to approach 110 degrees.

Heat indices are expected to climb to between 105 to 107 degrees Wednesday afternoon and early evening, especially for areas along and east of Interstate 135.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat-related stress and illness. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible. Also, car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.  

Heat indices are expected to climb to between 105 to 107 degrees Friday for areas along and east of I-135, and will be around 100 for both Friday and Saturday.

Storms will return to the forecast Saturday afternoon and especially Saturday night and will remain in the forecast for the start of the work week. Strong storms look possible, especially Saturday night.
