HOISINGTON — The Hoisington Cardinal debate team placed fourth out of 18 schools recently at Halstead. They followed Great Bend in first, Dodge City in second, and Abilene in third. 

Matthew MacMahon and Chris Collier went 4-1 and earned 6th place medals out of 28 in the novice division. They defeated teams from Dodge City, Sterling, Cheney, and Lyons.  Their loss was to an Abilene team.

Miquala Purscell and Victoria Luttrell competed in the open (varsity)  division.  They defeated teams from Abilene and Peabody-Burns.  They lost to the first place Great Bend team, the second place McPherson team, and a team from Remington (Whitewater).  

Tyler Reif and Trevan Brown also competed in the open (varsity) division, defeating a team from Peabody-Burns.  They lost to teams from Buhler, Great Bend, Dodge City, and Cheney. 

Elliott Copp was the alternate. 

Upcoming action for the team includes a workshop at Fort Hays State University, and tournaments at Lyons, Great Bend, and Sterling College (the Central Kansas League Tournament).

The team is hosting the Garrett Blase Memorial Novice Tournament on Monday afternoon and evening, Oct. 21.  Anyone who would like to volunteer to judge is asked to contact Mr. Oborny at the high school.
