Fort Larned archeology
activities scheduled

FORT LARNED — Fort Larned National Historic Site will host archeology activities for children ages 8 to 12 from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
A trunk from the Kansas State Historical Society, “Puzzles from the Past, Problem Solving through Archeology,” will be on display and available for exploration.
Kansas Archeology Association member Norman Dye will lead a field activity consisting of flagging and examining artifacts and other “finds”.  All children participating will receive a Junior Ranger Archeology badge and a certificate.
Fort Larned National Historic Site is a great place to learn about archeology.
An original fort operating from 1859 – 1878, the museum shows physical objects that tell the lifestyle and experiences of the soldiers, native plainsmen, and others who traveled through the area.
The KSHS trunk combined with artifacts in the museum and the outdoor activity will be fun learning tools for budding young archeologists. There is no admission fee but space is limited.  To make reservations call 620-285-6911.
Fort Larned National Historic Site is six miles west of Larned on K-156.  Information is available at www.nps.gov/fols, or by calling 620-285-6911, or on the Fort Larned Facebook page.
