OISINGTON — Clara Barton Hospital was recently awarded grant monies by Kansas Department of Health and Environment to support injury prevention in the geriatric community members. They have teamed up with other partner agencies to focus on the reduction of in home falls. The grant funds allow for the purchase of bathroom assist devices (bathroom bars and stool risers), providing money for the hardware.

"We believe this project provided a great service to the geriatric members of our community and hope that we have had a positive impact on the individuals we were able to help," said Jane Schepmann, VP, CNO. "Our outstanding labor cost is approximately $2000."

Installation and education for use of these bars is being provided by hospital staff and area businesses with the support of the hospital auxiliary. There is no cost to the recipient. To qualify you must be 65+ with a physical limitation caused by recent injury or a disabling chronic condition which has resulted in imbalance or decreased mobility.

"With the monies provided we were able to help 34 members of our community," said Schepmann. "The hardware installed included tub and shower rails of varying lengths, stool risers and shower benches."
