HOISINGTON — Michelle Kaiser’s three-year-old preschool class at Roosevelt Elementary School learned about healthy habits with the help of PBS Kids.
In a video, Sid, the Science Kid, showed good hand washing skills so everyone doesn’t catch a cold. They learned that germs are what cause colds, although to see germs, they have to be viewed with an electron microscope.
The children learned germs are spread by coughing into your hand. After touching something such as a desk, the desk will have germs on it. When someone else touches the area, they pick up the germs by touching their face.
They were shown the correct way to cough or sneeze which is into the elbow or a tissue.
Each child received a book called "Going to the Doctor" by Anne Civaidi, one of the Usborne First Experiences books which introduces kids to situations they may encounter.
Leona Beeden, director of education for Smoky Hills Public Television spoke the kids about healthy habits. "Eat good food," she said. "Wash hands before eating, and get plenty of rest."
They need to wash hands long enough to sing the alphabet. Soap and water are the best way to clean hands.
Vice-President of Nursing CBH Jan Schepman read the students a poem about germs, how they are everywhere and how to fight germs.
