On Saturday, March 5, 23 music students participated in the annual Parnassus Auditions in piano and voice at the Barton Community College Fine Arts Building, Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel.
In this audition, the voice students perform two art songs memorized and piano students perform one memorized solo for an adjudicator, who then writes an evaluation of the student’s performance.
Elementary Division students perform for a written critique and medal. Junior Division students receive performance ratings and written critique. High School students compete for ratings, critique and awards for first place, second place, third place and honorable mentions.
Steve Gustafson, McPherson, adjudicated both the piano and vocal divisions.
The Senior Vocal winners were Caden Rowan, first place; Kiley Troyer, second place; and Clarise Snapp, third place.
Elementary and Junior Voice medal winners were Mikayla Watts, Vivian Klepper, Victoria Moeder, Avery Panning and Addyson Moore.
The Senior Piano winners were August Siefkes, first place; Ellyson Somers, second place; Reagan Huslig, third place; and honorable mentions Amy To and Clarise Snapp.
Junior and Elementary Piano winners were Madelynne Siefkes, Kaylea McMullen, Reece Stickney, Baya Yeakley, Holly Ann Luttrell, Kale Mermis, DJ Barney and Emma Snapp.
The Central Kansas Piano Teacher’s League sponsored the event. Area music teachers with students participating include Karole Erikson, Lorrie Stickney, Becky Dudrey, Jennifer Pfortmiller and Glenna Gaunt.
