According to the Barton County Sheriff's Office on Dec. 3, at approximately 10:35 p.m. two subjects arrived at the Barton County Jail to report a battery.
At approximately the same time Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Great Bend Regional Hospital for a report of a gunshot wound.
Deputies responded to both locations and determined both incidents were the result of an altercation in the 500 block of NW 20 Ave.
Evidently there was a dispute over property. The situation became a physical altercation at which point multiple shots were fired by a suspect.
A 44 year old white male received several gunshot wounds.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of Sydney Perez, white female, age 20 of Topeka. Perez is booked for attempted murder and aggravated battery.
A second arrest was made the morning of Dec. 4. Arrested was Kirk Sander, white male, age 57 of Great Bend. Sander was charged with aggravated assault.
Perez is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bond and Sanders is being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
The 44 year old victim remains at Great Bend Regional Hospital in stable condition.
The Sheriff’s Office investigation is continuing.
