Arthur August “Art” Wondra

Arthur August “Art” Wondra, 90, passed away April 2, 2024, at Credo Senior Living, Hoisington, Kan. He was born on Oct. 25, 1933, in Odin, Kan., to Joseph and Agnes (Debes) Wondra. On Nov. 14, 1959, he married MaryAnn Huslig in Cunningham, Kan. She passed on April 28, 2020.

Coming from Odin to Great Bend in 1959, Art worked as a group leader for Marlette Mobile Homes and as a custodian at USD 428. He also worked as a local farmer. Art was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and former member of the Cheyenne Twisters Square Dance Club. 

Survivors include four sons, Kevin Wondra (Teresa) of Great Bend, Alan Wondra (Karen) of Wichita, Korey Wondra (Leann) of Hutchinson, and David Wondra of Wichita; daughter, Kathy Walsten (Eric) of Mulvane; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Axman (Doug), Brice Walsten, Kyle Walsten (Emily), Aaron Wondra (Kassade), Alicia Wondra (fiancé Scott Fienen), Lucas Wondra, Zachary Wondra (Jenna), Evan Wondra (Audrey), Joshua Wondra, Andrew Walsten, and Emma Wondra; 12 great grandchildren, Trysten Grant, Parker Wondra, Adalynn Axman, Louisa Walsten, Connor Wondra, Bentyn Fienen, Zella Wondra, Koehn Wondra, Ellis Walsten, Beckham Wondra, Orin Fienen, and Elias Wondra; step grandchild, Sabrina Bailey (Robert); three step great grandchildren, Cameron Nichols, Jordan Holley, and Braden Holley; step great great grandchild, Bella Holley; a brother, Gerald Wondra of Great Bend; and two sisters, Rita Legliter of St. Marys, and Jeanie Hapes of Great Bend. He is preceded in death by his wife; two grandchildren, Megan Wondra and Brett Wondra; step grandchild, Devin Holley; his parents; three brothers, Robert, Alois, and Thomas Wondra; and five sisters, Sr. Edith Wondra, Cecilia Schneweis, Mary Ann Collins, Alice Wondra, and Margaret White.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and vigil service with rosary starting at 7 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Prakash Kola and Father Warren Stecklein presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery with military honors presented by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.
