James E. “Budjoe” Detherage, 77, died April 26 at home in Great Bend. He was born Nov. 2, 1936, at Altus, Ark., to Coyle and Daisy (Covert) Detherage. James married Arletta Mohr on Oct. 10, 1957, at Larned. She survives. A truck driver for Rainbow Trucking, until his retirement, Mr. Detherage was a long time Great Bend resident, formerly residing in Radium.
He was of the Southern Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Jim Detherage of Russellville, Ark., and Brad Detherage and his wife Trina of Great Bend; one daughter, Karen Petty and her husband Chuck of Macksville; and three brothers, Billy Ray Detherage of Lawrence, Larry “LD” Detherage of Albuquerque, N.M., and Ronny Dale Detherage of Kansas. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Sell; a brother, Coyle Detherage Jr.; and by one sister, Joyce Littlejohn.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Bryant Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Grummon, officiant. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery North. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Donations to a memorial fund for Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice may be sent in care of the funeral home.
