Larry W. Meeks

Larry W. Meeks, (74), of Rye, Colo., passed away at his residence on Jan. 5, 2021. Larry was a long time resident of Great Bend.

Larry was born on Dec. 7, 1947 to Patrick and Selma Meeks in Amarillo, Texas. After graduating from Otis High School he enlisted in the Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran.

Larry returned to Kansas after his military service. He became a pillar in the community as an owner of several businesses over the years. He had so many accomplishments there is no way to list them all! One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming an auctioneer.

Larry was a hard worker but also loved to have fun. He could often be found at Lake Wilson where he enjoyed throwing people off the inner tubes. He also loved riding his motorcycle all over the country with his friends. He spent that last few years of his life in the Colorado mountains where he spent a lot of time as a child. He loved his views and enjoyed the time he lived there. He had always dreamed of living there.

Larry is survived by his sons, Wayne Meeks (Shanna) and Michael Meeks; his daughter, Jodie Koenigs (Nick); a stepson, Joshua Rasmussen (Dyane); a sister, Lou Ann; several cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Selma Meeks.

Cremation has taken place per Larry’s wishes. There will be a private gathering now with a celebration of life this summer at Wilson Lake for all who would like to attend.
