BAT CATS 18, NEWTON 6 — Chase Kessler led seven Bat Cats with an RBI with three runs batted home in an 18-6 victory over Newton in Wednesday's Jayhawk Collegiate baseball game.

Great Bend delivered seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Delivering two runs batted home were T.J. Shaw, Kirby Orth and Jaxon Bunkers. George McCarroll, Andrugh Yee and Peanut Brazzle each drove in one run.

Starter Murphy struck out six batters. Reliever Zachary Alarid (1.00 ERA) worked out of a bases-loaded fifth-inning jam.

The Bat Cats took advantage of eight walks, five players hit by pitches and seven Newton errors that led to six unearned runs.

Newton's Dellen Claasen drilled a 2-run homer.

First-place Great Bend (21-7, 19-7 Jayhawk) ends a 7-game road trip Friday at Junction City (19-7, 17-7 Jayhawk).

NEWTON 11, BAT CATS 1 — Bat Cats starter Quentin Medrano (4-1, 8.59 ERA) faced eight batters without recording an out in an 8-run Newton inning Thursday.

Newton's Jaylon Humbles, Taj Smith and Jace Brunswick each drove in two runs. Mark Wiemann, Sam Schmidt, D.L. Morton, Caden Ehardt and Francisco Arias each drove in a run.

T.J Shaw scored on Orth's first-inning groundout.

ALL-STARS SELECTED — Great Bend starter RHP Zach Alarid (3-0, 0.97 ERA) headlines nine Bat Cats for Saturday's Jayhawk Collegiate All-Star Game at Hutchinson.
