Stephenson takes over Barton volleyball program

Barton’s search for a new volleyball coach has some to an end. Brandon Stephenson takes over the Barton volleyball program. Stephenson started last week but his hire is pending Board Approval later this month.
He replaces Phil Shoemaker who resigned after posting a 30-70 record in three years.
Stephenson comes to Barton from Lamar Community College in Colorado, where he coached the Lopes for the past three seasons. During that time, Lamar his teams were 48-64.
Stephenson was also an assistant with Highlands Community College for a season and spent time as an assistant at Trinity Valley Community College in Texas.
He began coaching volleyball while at McPherson College as a student assistant. He transferred to Kansas Wesleyan where he received a degree in physical education. He earned his Masters’ in Coaching Education from Ohio University.
Stephenson was a first team All-State offensive lineman from Salina Central High School in 2001 and was a first team All Jayhawk conference lineman in 2002 and 2003 at Coffeyville. Injuries hampered his football career at the University of Nebraska-Kearney and later McPherson College.
