BOYS
Larned 63, Pratt 57
LARNED – The Larned Indian boys basketball team fell behind 14-2 in the opening minutes before rallying for a satisfying 63-57 non-league victory over rival Pratt.
Pratt’s Noah Myers hit a pair of 3-pointers and Derek Barnard hit a 3-pointer. But Larned finished the first quarter with a 12-5 edge to get within 19-14.
Larned outscored the Greenbacks 37-26 in the second half.
Larned’s Isiah Perez scored 20 points and led the Indians at point guard. Perez scored 12 points in the third quarter. Tyler Stelter and Evan Skelton each scored 13 points.
Samson Kohman led Pratt with 18 points and Brandon Ruckle added 15 points.
Larned’s season opener came against a Pratt team that ended the Indians’ season in a 70-69 in double overtime in the substate championship. Larned and Pratt will be rejoined in the Class 4A-Division II substate at Larned March 5-7.

Ellinwood senior Marc Waite scored 14 of his 23 total points in the second half, going 6 of 10 from the charity stripe, to fend off a Russell comeback.
Russell’s leading scorer was Reshean Holloway with 12. Shawntell Denault had a good debut scoring nine points. Travis Ochs ripped 11 boards and scored eight points.

Central Plains 49, Hoisington 37
HOISINGTON — All-stater Layne Bieberle scored 19 points to spark the state-ranked Central Plains boys past Hoisington 49-37 Friday.
Michael Ryan scored 16 points and Braedan Crites added 12 points. Hoisington’s Seth Owen scored 11 points.
The Oilers led 24-16 at halftime behind a 10-0 scoring burst. The Cardinals never got closer than five points in the second half.

St. John 72, Skyline 29
ST. JOHN – Kansas State basketball signee Dean Wade scored 24 first-half points and 32 overall to spark the St. John basketball Tigers past Skyline High School 72-29 Friday. Wade converted 12 field goals and 8-13 free throws.
The Tigers led 25-7 after one quarter and 51-14 at halftime.
Cole Kinnamon scored 18 points and Jacob Milton added nine points. The Tigers hit 25 field goals and 22 of 36 free throws.

LARNED – Stonie Flemming scored 15 points and Kelsey Smith-Potter Potter scored 10 points as Pratt’s girls defeated Larned 51-34 in a non-league basketball opener.
Pratt led 11-2 at the start and outscored Larned 18-10 in the first quarter and 18-5 in the third quarter for a 33-15 edge.
Haley Skelton led Larned with 13 points and Shay Shepherd added eight points. Larned committed 18 turnovers.

RUSSELL — Rachel Doll scored 14 of her 31 points in the fourth period to spark Ellinwood past Russell’s girls 63-40 in a non-league basketball opener. The fast-paced Eagles outscored Russell 41-15 in the second half.
Ellinwood’s Delaney Beckwith scored 14 points and Allison Panning scored 11 points.
Angeleah Stierlen and Delainey Pospichal led Russell in scoring with 10 points each. Megan Boxberger hit three three-pointers. Kyleigh Kasper pulled down nine rebounds and scored seven points.
