JUNCTION CITY — Matt Moyd didn’t shatter his personal best time of 15.03 in the 110-meter high hurdles.
The Great Bend High School senior obliterated it.
Moyd clocked 14.71 to capture first place at the Junction City Invitational on Friday afternoon at Al Simpler Stadium.
In the meantime, Chris Burley won the pole vault, clearing 14 feet to win that event, as GBHS had nine individual first-place finishes.
Field-event specialist Jacy Quade was the Lady Panthers’ top placer, winning both the shot put (38 feet, 10 inches) and the discus (130-3).
Moyd eclipsed his best times in the hurdles and 100 dash, clocking 14.71 and 10.83 to win those events. Previous bests were 15.03 and 11.04.
“He’s the guy on our track team, obviously,” Great Bend head coach Bo Black said. “He won the 110 hurdles and won the 100 easily.”
As for Burley, he went right after the school record after clearing 14 feet but came up short. With only two meets under his belt, no question he should been clearing the school record of 14-7 ½ soon.
“He cleared 14 easily,” said Black of Burley, “and he went straight to 14-7 ½ to break the school record. He had three attempts at it and came close on a couple.
“I thought we had a great day and a lot of people competed really well. We took a small group over there and we had a lot of first-place finishes. It was a really good day.”
Darion Yager (300 intermediate hurdles), Kole Stiner (800) Chon Chavez (1,600) and Jayce Brack (discus) also secured first-place finishes.
