Barton County celebrates a decade of Bat Cats

The Barton County Commission plans to celebrate 10 years of the Great Bend Bat Cats Baseball Club during its July 7 meeting.

The commission meeting starts at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Suit 106 at the Courthouse, 1400 Main. It will also be live-streamed through Microsoft Teams at https://bit.ly/4dN1Uin.

The Great Bend Bat Cats Baseball Club expands to 32 states and eight countries, bringing student athletes to the Al Burns Memorial Field to develop skills, gain exposure and pursue a dream of playing professional baseball. With an estimated 8,000 people attending free games throughout a typical home season, the team offers local support by participating in community and service opportunities, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to giving back. The commission will be asked to adopt a proclamation celebrating 10 years of commitment to youth and community.

Other items on the agenda are Independent Township board appointments and a possible executive session.

After the agenda meeting, the commission had scheduled appointments:

9:45 a.m. or following the close of the agenda meeting, planning session with Media Consultant Elle Hutchinson

10 a.m., regular business discussion with County Administrator Matt Patzner

10:15 a.m., discussion of equipment needs with Solid Waste Director Jennifer Hamby

10:30 a.m., program update with 911 Director Dena Popp

10:45 a.m., departmental planning session with Interim Public Health Director Lindsey Ensley

11:30 a.m., the Commission will continue business discussions.
