Thursday evenings will feature live music and a farmers market in the Barton County Courthouse Square.

The Summer Street Stroll farmers market opened this week and will be open from 4-7 p.m. every Thursday through Sept. 12 at the southeast corner of the Barton County Courthouse Square.

The Great Bend City Band will also offer free concerts; these will be held at the band shell at 8:15 p.m. on the following Thursdays: May 30, June 6, 13, 20 and 27, and July 4 and 11. The final concert of the season will be held on Tuesday, July 16.

On Friday, June 28, the City Band will offer a special concert with a wide variety of music performed by a Big Band.

The July 4 concert will feature patriotic music. Other special concert themes will be announced at the concerts throughout the summer.

In case of inclement weather, the outdoor concert for that evening will be canceled by 7:15 p.m.

Musicians welcome

Membership in the City Band is open to high school, college and adult band musicians. Younger musicians are not included because of the difficulty of the music. More information about concerts or participation may be obtained by contacting the director of the City Band, Steven Lueth, at 620-935-4330.
