Great Bend High School Debate squad placed 1st overall at the Liberal Debate Tournament on Nov. 9, that had Halloween costumes optional. Two novice teams placed in top 6 and the open teams had winning records too. Three individuals also received awards for their creative costumes.
In the novice division, going undefeated with a 5-0 win loss record, the team of Ashtin Heath and Aaron Miller placed 1st. Kris Gieck and Jesus Sandoval placed 4th a 4-1 win loss record. The open teams had winning records contributing to the teams 1st place in team sweepstakes.
Makinna Dykes placed 3rd for her costume as Athena, Greek Goddess of Wisdom. Ashtin Heath and Aaron Miller placed 2nd with their “My Little Pony” costumes. Other costumes included Malia Clark as Little Red Riding, Marissa Hoisington as Bat Woman and Carter Sheffield as Superman. Coach Barbara Watson portrayed Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.
The team will travel and compete at TMP in Hays next weekend.
