Thanks to Lori Farmer for the photos.

The Claflin Discovery Center had its grand opening on Thursday, May 11. There were quite a few kids and parents visiting the center.

The Discovery Center was started with a group of moms wanting a place for their kids to play and learn in Claflin. The center offers a lot of hands-on learning with areas such as a marketplace, a kitchen area, a fire station, a vet clinic, art center, reading area, a puppet show area, Karlynn’s garden, Billy Ray’s Boat and other areas for the kids to learn and play.

The Claflin Discovery Center received donations from the memorials of Bill Miller and Karlynn Beck, who were huge supporters of the center. The Bill Miller memorial is a boat, the Billy Ray, and Karlynn Beck’s memorial is a garden area. Other donations were also received, such as the Discovery Center Sign made by Scott Liebl.

Board members are Bobbi Cuffe, Jessy Kirmer, Lauren Kirmer, Laura Miller and Samantha Stueder. They are assisted by the Claflin Rec Center, Millers of Claflin, and Claflin Area Pride.

The center can be accessed with a Claflin Rec membership key card or during the business hours of the rec office.
