On Saturday, Oct. 1st, the Great Bend Debate Team traveled to Lyons and Sterling. The Junior Varsity tournament was held in Sterling.  Due to extenuating circumstances, Sylvia Ofoma, Paige Vanstenburgh, and Nathanial Cheney competed as a three man team. They ended the tournament with a 3-2 win-loss record placing 10th out of 30 teams. Mickie McNett and Michael Gieck finished with a 4-1 win-loss record and placed 3rd out of 30 teams.
“The day started off slow, but it started to slowly progress after we started picking up wins.” said McNett
The Open Varsity tournament was held in Lyons. Morgan Francis and Chase Pumford ended with a 3-2 win-loss record placing 10th out of 27 teams. Marrissa Hoisington and Alex Smith ended with a 2-3 win-loss record placing 12th out of 27 teams.
“It was really fun and I picked up on a lot of things,” said Francis. “I feel like I did well.”
“For the second tournament of the season, I think the team is doing really well. I am really pleased at how hard everyone is working.” said GBHS Debate Coach Barbara Watson.
