HOISINGTON — The Hoisington FCCLA chapter has been active in District B competition since the start of the semester. At the end of January, Brayden Copp was elected as the 2020-2021 District B President. To accomplish this, Brayden had to take a FCCLA knowledge test, give a three minute speech and then answer a fact question, followed by an impromptu question. He was elected as president by the voting delegates from District B which includes: Central Plains, Hoisington, Victoria, Ellis, Plainville, Stockton, Phillipsburg, Smith Center, Lakeside and Osborne.
Two weeks later, the FCCLA members who completed STAR events, traveled to Lakeside high school, where at the end of the day, Copp took over his duties as president.
In STAR events, (Students Taking Action with Recognition), Gabriel Hipp participated in Level 2 Recycle and Redesign contest where he made a puppet dome to put on small plays for his younger siblings. He received a Silver and advanced to state. Emma Reif and Matthew MacMahon competed in the Chapter Service Project Display and talked about the pink out for the 3D Mammography machine they raised money for during the month of October. They received silver and advanced onto state. Brayden Copp and Jarrett Shives competed in the level 3, interpersonal communications. Their project is about going into the community and doing community service while visiting with community members. They received gold and advanced to state.
the end of February, brought Peer Ed selection. Rieley Fuentes and Gabriel Hipp prepared a two minute video over a national program. Hipp was named to the 2020-2021 FCCLA state Peer Ed STOP the Violence Team.
Copp and Hipp will receive training at the state meeting in April, as well as nationals in July in Washington D.C.
