LARNED – Pawnee Valley Lumber is hosting a grand opening with a meet-and-greet for the new owner coming soon, Kevin Weaver. The event is set for 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the store, 305 Main St, Larned.

Weaver comes to Larned to take over the business from his parents, Bernard and Kathy Weaver, who will be staying in the area until retirement. Kevin is the single father to a 3-year-old daughter, and he has a background in construction, a degree in vehicle restoration and holds a certified Kansas police officer certification.

He said he is excited to start this new career choice.

Bernard and Kathy Weaver opted six months ago to sell the lumber yard after deciding this was not the avenue Bernard wanted to pursue long term, Kathy said. The business was offered to former manager W.G. Wilson. He declined, stating he wasn’t sure of his future.

Then, the Weavers offered the business to their son after he indicated interest.

Kevin looks forward to spending more time with his daughter, which this position will afford.

The lumber yard will continue to operate much the same, with the same hours, prices and service as it has always had. However, they continue to be on the lookout for what’s new for their customers.  To help with that, a suggestion box for ideas and suggestions from patrons is now available.

“Please feel free to drop in and see the inventory changes over the last few years” Kevin said. “We now stock many new items. We would appreciate your support in this change over.”
