The special question on the ballot for Central Plains USD 112 has failed.  A YES vote would have dissolved the school district.  With the NO votes winning, the district will remain as it was.

The vote was 587 YES and 1,179 NO.

A photo of a tally posted in the courthouse showed this breakdown of votes:

Ellsworth/Russell/Lincoln counties: YES 550, NO 374

Rice County: YES 20, NO 162

Barton County: YES 17, NO 643

The unofficial results of the special election in USD 112 are in. The question has failed. The count was 587 “yes” votes and 1,179 “no” votes.

These results were posted at approximately 9:10 p.m. Tuesday by the Ellsworth County Clerk’s Office. Shelly D. Vopat, Ellsworth County Clerk, also serves as the county election officer.


Ellsworth County will conduct a post-election audit for the election at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, in the Commissioner’s Room at the Ellsworth County Courthouse.

In Barton County, voter turnout was 73.41%. There are 899 registered voters and 660 ballots were cast.
