The tornado warning siren at 5th and Chestnut in the southeastern part of Great Bend will be out of service until further notice, the Great Bend Police Department reported Wednesday afternoon.

The siren has failed numerous weekly Tuesday tests. Out of town maintenance professionals have been contacted, and the device should be repaired by next week.

Area residents are reminded that in times of adverse weather they should stay tuned to the media, computers and cell phones for the latest storm information. Police officers will also run their area alert routes.
