According to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported injury accident located in the 300 block of Northeast 10 Ave. just north of 30 Road.
Upon arrival Sheriff’s officers located a two vehicle head on collision, in which two parties were injured.
Investigation and scene indicates a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, grey in color, driven by Akia Blackburn, age 17 of Ellinwood, was southbound on the gravel road.
The driver lost control of the vehicle near the Wet Walnut Creek bridge, crossed left of center and struck a 2012 Lincoln, white in color, operated by Gina Westhoff age 39 of Great Bend.
The Westhoff vehicle was northbound at the time of the collision.
Both drivers were injured in the collision and transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital.
Blackburn was later transported to a Wichita area hospital.
The Sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Great Bend Fire Department, EMS personnel and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The accident is under investigation by the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.
It appears speed was a contributing factor to the collision.
