A nearly two-year, $5.8 million project to rebuild U.S. 183 through Kinsley is expected to begin around Feb. 28.
Besides concrete pavement, this Kansas Department of Transportation project includes new curbs and gutter, replacement of storm inlets, repairs and improvement to storm sewer pipe, replacement of entrances to properties, replacement and relocation of the water main under U.S. 183 and repairs to the sanitary sewer system. The length of the project is about three-quarters of a mile, from the south city limits to the U.S. 56/183 junction.
The project will be done in three phases, on the same alignment.
In the first two phases, traffic will be restricted to one lane and controlled by traffic signals. Motorists should expect delays of about five minutes. Phase one will start at the south city limits and proceed to the north edge of the city park. Phase two will be from the north edge of the park to the U.S. 50 /183 junction.
Phase three will begin at that junction and proceed north to the U.S. 56/183 junction. Traffic in the third phase also will be limited to one lane in one direction; traffic in the other direction will be guided by signs to use a U.S. 50/56 detour.
Phase one, expected to begin around Feb. 21, and phase two will take up the first year of the project. Those two phases will account for the south half of the project. That work is expected to be completed around Dec. 3, 2022.
The entire project is expected to be completed around Nov. 18, 2023.
Vogts-Parga Construction, of Newton, is the primary contractor for the $5,817,680 project.
