Farmers honored at Farm Bureau meeting

One hundred Farm Bureau members met Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Knights of Columbus in Hoisington for The Barton County Farm Bureau 92nd-annual Meeting to conduct the business of the Association.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of four Century Farm Awards to Farm Bureau members whose farms have been in the family for one hundred years or more. Those receiving the honor in 2010 were Raymond Lee Hanken, Rosalia Ann (Hanken) Schorber Schick, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Skolaut and The Morgenstern Family Corporation.

Also honored but unable to attend were Joe and Lora Zink who were Barton County’s Natural Resoure Honorees. The Zinks were recognized for their efforts in environmental protection measures and conservation practices used on their farm. It was announced at the Barton County Annual Meeting that the Zinks were second place winners at the State level and will receive $500 and a plaque.

Jeanne Wedd and Harlan Stoss were introduced as The Farm Family of the Year.

The formal business of the Association was conducted concluding with election of new officers to the board of directors and delegates to the Kansas Farm Bureau State Convention. The board members for the upcoming year are Jerry Morgenstern, President, Sharon Hiss, Vice President, Bill Berchek , Treasurer, Brad Birzer- Young Farmer and Rancher, Wendy Hughes- Women’s Chair, Kyle Schartz, Richard Koester, Michael Bahr and Christine Clasen.
