Facility updates proposed
Here's how funds would be used at three Great Bend schools if bond proposals pass in April.
Riley plan 2
One possible site plan for Riley Elementary School improvements is shown. West (Hubbard Street) is at the top of the drawing. At present, the front of the building is on Hubbard Street. If Question 3 passes, a new entry and office will be added next to the new storm shelter, and people will enter the school off of Heizer Street, where a new drop-off/pick-up area and parking will be added.

The Great Bend Tribune continues to look at what is being proposed in the upcoming bond elections for Great Bend USD 428. Today we focus on Riley Elementary School, Eisenhower Elementary School and Park Elementary School.

Bond issue: Riley Elementary School

If Question One of the school bond election passes in April, Riley Elementary School will receive a new storm shelter/gym on the northeast side of the building. Riley’s gym is small than some of the other gyms in the district and it also doubles as the cafeteria/kitchen and multipurpose room with stage and band. The current gym will become the cafeteria/kitchen.

The office will be renovated along with a controlled entry vestibule.

Needed infrastructure improvements will be addressed in electrical, lighting and plumbing throughout the building.

The playground will be upgraded, including a preschool playground.

If Question 3 passes, there will be a new controlled entry and administration area added next to the new gym, with the old office renovated into classrooms. A new on-site parking area will be added and parents will drop-off and pick up students in this area.

Bond issue: Eisenhower Elementary School

If Question One of the school bond election passes in April, Eisenhower Elementary Schools will receive new additions including a new cafeteria/kitchen that will double as a storm shelter. There will be a new controlled entry and an administration addition/remodel; the old office area will be used for other purposes.

Needed infrastructure improvements will be addressed in electrical, lighting and plumbing throughout the building. The preschool and kindergarten playground will be upgraded.

Bond issue: Park Elementary School

If Question One of the school bond election passes in April, Park Elementary School will receive a new addition which will create a new controlled entry and office addition off of Williams Street, plus a new storm shelter that will double as the cafeteria/kitchen on the north side of the building.

Needed infrastructure improvements will be addressed in electrical, lighting and plumbing throughout the building. The playground will be upgraded.
