LARNED — Pitcher Evan Skelton threw a shutout, then delivered the game-winning run on a hit-by-pitch in Larned’s baseball sweep over Lyons Wednesday at Moffet Stadium.
Skelton struck out 10 batters in a four-hit masterpiece in a 7-0 opening victory. He was pitch by a pitch byLogan Gillespe that forced home Alex Barger for a 6-5 extra-inning victory in the nightcap.
• LARNED 7, LYONS 0 — Evan Skelton preserved a shutout by striking out Tyler Pilcher with the bases-loaded in the seventh inning. Skelton retired three consecutive batters in the second inning after Cordell Moore walked and Jordan Douglass singled.
Jon Herter drove in four runs with a pair of triples, including a bases-loaded shot scored three sixth-inning runs.
Evan Skelton scored on a passed ball and Herter’s triple scored Isiah Perez after a first-inning walk for a 2-0 lead.
Perez singled and scored in a two-run third inning. Tyler Stelter’s single scored Perez for a 4-0 lead.
Dalton Bright and Evan Skelton both walked and Landon Erway singled to load the bases off pitcher Jordan Douglass. Herter’s triple scored all three baserunners for a 7-0 lead.
• LARNED 6, LYONS 5 — Barger and Dalton Bright drew eighth-inning walks and Carson Smith singled to load the bases off reliever Gillespe to set up Evan Skelton’s game-ending hit by pitch. Landon Erway pitched a shutout eighth inning to earn the victory.
Larned built a 5-0 lead against Lyons pitcher Brayden Moore. Evan Skelton walked and Gage Skelton singled and both runners scored in a three-run first inning. Stelter singled home Perez, who reached base on an error.
Evan Skelton doubled and scored on Gage Skelton’s second-inning groundball. Perez’s double scored Gage Skelton for a 5-0 lead.
Perez threw six shutout innings with seven strikeouts.
Lyons rallied in a five-run seventh inning with three hits, two errors and a walk. Gillespe singled, Trent Jones walked and Tristan Heath singled to load the bases. Gillespe scored when Larned misplayed a groundball by Peyton Harvey. Jeb Sauer’s singled scored Jones and Heath. Harvey scored on Cordell Morer’s groundball. Sauer scored for a 5-5 tie on Nathan Robl’s groundball that would’ve ended the game.
Landon Erway struck out two batters in the eighth inning.
