In 1916, Riley Elementary was opened as a modern and sophisticated learning center for the students in Great Bend. Over the past 100 years, the tradition of excellence started by those students and teachers in 1916 has continued to thrive.
Aug. 17, 2016, marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of school at Riley Elementary. Principal JoAnn Blevins said a celebration will be held in September.
“We are excited to celebrate this milestone event with all of Great Bend,” Blevins said. “The students and staff at Riley Elementary would like to invite Riley alumni and the community to our celebration event scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 11, from 2-4 p.m. This public reception will include building tours, a display and birthday cake.
“The display will feature 100 years of excellence at Riley Elementary. We are seeking artifacts such as grade cards, pictures and other memorabilia for our display,” she said.
Anyone with items for the display is asked to bring them to the main office at Riley Elementary during the month of June, or call the school’s office, 620-793-1506.
