RUSSELL — Dorothy Mae (Nuss) Funk, 86, of Russell, passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at the Russell Regional Hospital. She was born April 14, 1931, in Milberger, the daughter of Harold and Esther (Blehm) Nuss. She grew up in Milberger and graduated from Russell High School in 1949. She married Leon Funk on Jan. 30, 1949, in Russell. He preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 2005.
Dorothy was a hairdresser in Russell for many years. She was the owner and operator of Dorothy’s Beauty Shop in the 1980s and ’90s. She also was a waitress at many restaurants in Russell including the Holland Hotel, Eaten Time and the O’Brian Café. She also worked at the Mode-O-Day Dress Shop.
Mrs. Funk was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Russell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6240 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed Bingo, family outings and crocheting.
Survivors include two sons, Rodney Funk of Russell and Terry Funk of El Dorado; a daughter, Kimberly Lahmann of Manhattan; brother, Dean Nuss of Russell; sister, Karen Gaines of Bozeman, Montana; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister Marjorie Mighell, and great-grandson Isaac Erhlich.
Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6-7 p.m. A memorial has been established with the Russell VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
