Panthers' Arias scores 34th goal

EMPORIA — Emporia's girls ended Great Bend's first winning season in 22 years with a 3-1 victory in the 5A Wichita Carroll regional.

Great Bend's Xali Arias scored her record-breaking 34th goal on Teegan Guerra's assist.

Panther Xali Arias shares the single-game record of six goals with Jillian Reimer (2023) and Yesenia Garcia (2007). Arias' 34 goals breaks Garcia's record (26 goals). Arias is on pace to pass Garcia's 74 career goals.

The Panthers (9-8) last enjoyed a winning record in 2004. Emporia (11-6) plays Wichita Carroll (16-1-1) in the regional championship.

Emporia's Emersyn Johnson scored two goals for the Spartans' first regional win since 2009. Ariella Macias scored Emporia's other goal.
