BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Former Great Bend resident C.L. (Cliff) Schumacher, 88, passed away on Feb. 15, 2017, at Circle of Life Hospice Home in Bentonville, Ark. after a short illness. Cliff was born on June 21, 1928, in Lyons. He served on various community boards, the Great Bend City Council and retired as president of Colonial Savings and Loan. He and his wife Patsy (Burt) Schumacher moved to Bella Vista, Ark. where they enjoyed playing golf, traveling and spending winters at their desert home in Borrego Springs, CA.
Cliff was an avid golfer (five holes in one), aviation enthusiast, and had a fondness for animals. He was a graduate of Kansas State University where he was a left-handed catcher on the K-State baseball team. He also served in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Schumacher, of Brookdale Assisted Living in Great Bend; two daughters, Lisa (Darrell) Bruns, of Bemidji, Minn. and Karla Schumacher, Wichita; step-family Cathy (Ed) Catt, of Wichita; and Cliff (Kathy) Burt, Doug Burt and Charles (Susie) Burt, of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ethel Schumacher; brother, George Schumacher; and his first wife LaVerna Huffman.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel in Bella Vista, Ark. with Father William Lowry of St. Theodore’s Episcopal Church officiating. Condolences may be left at www.eptingfuneralhome.com.
