CLAFLIN — Elfrieda Alice Mantz, 95, died Aug. 28 at Golden Living Center, Wilson. She was born Feb. 18, 1919, at Claflin, the daughter of Max Frederick and Mary Otillie (Kafka) Schlessiger.
She married Henry Joseph Mantz, June 18, 1940, at Claflin. He died June 8, 1978. She worked for El-Kan and Fuller Brush.
Mrs. Mantz was a lifetime resident of Claflin and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and Altar Society, Claflin.
Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Christison and husband Richard of Kansas City, Mo., one son, Henry James Mantz and wife Diana of Wesmont, Ill.; one sister, LaVerne Sovereign of Claflin; and nieces and nephew, Debra Krier, Maxine Everett, and Jack and Jan Shlessiger, who showed her so much dedication and love.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Schlessiger, Albert Schlessiger and Fred Schlessiger; and sisters, Emma Drews, Helen Lathrop, Hanna Heiken, Marie Schlessiger and Rose Stehwein.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin with the Rev. Father John Forkuoh officiating. Interment will be at Claflin Cemetery, Claflin. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.nicholsonrickefh.net.
