GREAT BEND – Gene Potts, 82, died April 17, 2013 at Ellinwood District Hospital.
He was born April 25, 1930 at Pittsburg County, Okla., the son of William Arthur and Mona Mae (Cooley) Potts.
He married Doris Peterson and they were later divorced. He married Delores Gagelman Fischer, July 1970 at Great Bend. He worked for Spruill Motors, was a self-employed contract pumper and a farmer. Mr. Potts was a Great Bend resident since 1956, coming from Bushton. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Cougar Booster Club. He was a Booster Club Hall of Fame member and raced circle track from the 1950s to 1970s.
Survivors include his wife Dee Potts, of the home; two sons, Ronald Potts and his wife Connie, Ellinwood; Brian Fischer, Great Bend; four daughters, Cathy Oborny and her husband Mark, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Pam Maxwell, Topeka; Brenda Tallman and her husband Harry, Indianapolis, Ind.; Dana Lloyd and her husband Dave, Ellinwood; a sister, Velda Maynard, Euless, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd Potts, Grady Potts, Van Potts, and Junior Potts.
Funeral Service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend with The Reverend James A. Strasen officiating. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Cougar Booster Club or Ellinwood District Hospital Auxiliary, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
