St. John golfer qualifies for 1A state

STAFFORD — St. John Tiger Braxton Alpers tied for 10th place (87) at Monday's 1A golf substate to qualify for the 1A state golf tournament at McPherson's Turkey Creek Golf Course.

Alpers birdied No. 9, but ended with a quadruple 9 at the par 5 No 18 hole.

St. John (368) placed fourth, also counting scores by 17th-place Cody Newdigger (92), 19th-place Dylan Vieux (93) and 20th-place Weston Peterson (96).

St. John's Grady Long (118) highlighted his day with a birdie at No. 13.

South Gray medalist Gavin Wahl shot 1-under-par 69 with three birdies to lead the Rebels (331) to first place.
