Great Bend’s girls golf team featured two top 10 medalists — fourth-place Allison Neeland (46) and 10th-place finisher Halley Sanders (48) in Tuesday’s Great Bend Golf Invitational. The Panthers finished fourth (201) behind team champion Garden City (191), Hays (193) and Liberal (195) at Stoneridge Country Club.
Hays High’s Katie Brungardt (39) was medalist and Liberal’s Corey Mein (42) finished runner-up.
“We didn’t have our best day today as a group,” said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee. “ Having two individuals medal and a third miss a medal by just one shot is a positive that we can take forward into regional.”
McAtee had hoped the Panthers would play their best golf.
“Anytime you host a tournament at your home course, you hope that everyone has their best day. Unfortunately, we didn’t accomplish that today,” he said. “But as a team this year, we’ve grown into being much more competitive team and we’re looking forward to the opportunity we’ll have at the regional tournament at Liberal next Monday.”
Great Bend qualified for the Class 5A state golf tournament last year.
