Terry and Jean McAtee will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Jan. 27, with an informal family dinner at the home of their daughter’s family in Valley Center.
Jean Meier and Terry McAtee were married on Jan. 27, 1968, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Claflin, where both were raised. They have made their homes in Hays and Goodland, LaJunta, Colo., Broken Bow, Neb., Claflin, Newton, and Great Bend, moving 20 times in their 50 years of marriage. Terry is retired as the General Manager of Doonan Peterbilt GMC in Great Bend. He had also been the general manager for Larson Peterbilt in Great Bend, and in retail he was the manager of Gibsons Discount Centers in Goodland and in Broken Bow, Neb. Terry and Jean also owned McAtee Insurance Agency for 15 years while also owning and operating a small store called Variety Plus in Claflin. Jean has worked as an insurance and real estate agent, was employed at Barton Community College, Central National Bank, and Eyecare of Great Bend, and since retiring has found a love for floral design working for Great Bend Floral and Gifts and Yours Truly, both of Great Bend. They have three children, Jena (Eric) Berschauer of Valley Center, Travis (Carol) McAtee of Great Bend, and Trent (Jenny) McAtee of Pratt. They have seven grandchildren, Dr. Reed (Callie) McAtee, Keyton McAtee, Gage McAtee, Chance Berschauer, Cason Berschauer, Grant McAtee and Madi McAtee; and one great-granddaughter, Haven McAtee.
